Burberry, the most eco-responsible and ethical fashion company according to Remake.


The international organization specializing in the CSR commitments of fashion companies has just unveiled its Remake Fashion Accountability 2022 report. Focus on the most virtuous luxury firms and houses in terms of the environment, social issues and governance.

Produced in collaboration with labor rights bodies, opinion leaders and industry experts, theRemake’s 2022 study rated 58 fashion companies – fast fashion, luxury and retail – whose annual turnover exceeds 100 million dollars.

2022 was a story of two opposing truths in fashion: a glimmer of systemic change amid a flood of harmful industry practices.

The objective of the organization dedicated to social rights and ecology? Establish a detailed ranking of the most committed fashion companies through 150 points spread over six criteria. Among them, the traceabilitythem wages and the welfarethem business practicesthem raw materialsthe environmental justiceas well as governance.

While average of companies is set at 14 points out of 150, Burberry posted a score of 38 points, boosted by the environmental justice and governance categories. The house, having taken out a long-term loan of 300 million pounds at the start of the year, thus aims to become Climate Positive by 2040. 100% traceable key materials in 2025, partnerships to regenerate and protect nature, rental and resale with My Wardrobe HQ… So many green initiatives validated by the SBTi. Burberry is also one of the 17 companies in the report to have consulted its rating before publication in order to improve its points.

Ralph Lauren, rewarded for its operations in terms of gender equality, placed 10th in the ranking, totaling 25 points. From 15th to 17th place are Hermès, Kering – signatory of the EcoWatt charter – and PVH with a respective score of 20 points. The number 1 luxury LVMH – 31st rank – meanwhile received 11 points. Recently, the group, which includes Dior, Louis Vuitton and Fendi in its portfolio, has optimized its LIFE360 roadmap through a regenerative agriculture program in Africa. Finally, Chanel entered the report in 39th position, with 8 points.

Note that Remake has highlighted some smaller fashion brands “ethical and sustainable”, including Ganni. At the beginning of November, the Scandinavian house distinguished itself by its support for the “Greener Pastures Pledge” operation by Bolt Threads, known for its Mylo textile.
