A legendary hotel facing the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz

Located about twenty minutes from Biarritz, the Grand Hotel Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a historic destination. Famous among other things for its thalassotherapy, the town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz has always been in love with the sweetness of life. Majestically enthroned in front of the bay, the hotel has become an unmissable landmark on the Basque Coast. It embodies the spirit of the Belle Époque with a timeless charm, between French architecture and modern luxury. While the Basque Country has many thalassotherapy centres, the Loreamar Thalasso & Spa at the Grand Hôtel Sain-Jean-de-Luz is certainly the most exclusive.

The rooms and suites of the hotel are decorated in an elegant way, always using some motifs from the 1930s. The rooms are decorated in cream tones, and one feels naturally relaxed and refreshed. The charming furniture has been mottled and the materials used are noble, with in particular magnificent colored velvets to create a very chic atmosphere. To make matters worse, the hotel has chosen the luxury brand Bulgari for its courtesy products.

The deluxe rooms and suites face the Bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. These are composed of a refined living room and some have a private terrace, directly above the beach. The classic and superior rooms are oriented towards the city, while remaining in absolute calm.

Between ocean view and seawater swimming pool

The Grand Hotel was voted the best Spa Hotel in the world at the “World Luxury Hotel Awards 2019”! Even if the spa remains modest in size, it is the excellence of the therapists that has been rewarded in this way. The hotel’s thalassotherapy center is one of the most popular on the coast. Being located on the ground floor, it offers a view of the ocean from its heated seawater swimming pool or its various balneotherapy bathtubs. It is possible to rest under brick vaults sublimated by dim light effects. The atmosphere is intimate and soothing, ideal for enjoying all the benefits of seawater, known for its richness in minerals and trace elements.

The spa has 20 daylight treatment cabinsand offers a large menu of treatments, all made with seawater-based cosmetics, in particular with the creator of marine cosmetics Thalion. For anti-aging skin care, the hotel has chosen to use Skinceuticals cosmetics. Some treatments are designed to refine the silhouette and others are more oriented towards relaxation.

For all sporting and recreational activities, you will find a cardio room and bodybuilding as well as a cozy space designed to accommodate different practices such as yoga and the ball gym. Personalized coaching to keep or get back in shape is also possible.

Tailor-made wellness treatments

Several well-being cures have been created in conjunction with recognized therapeutic experts, such as Doctor Blanchemaison, specialist in medical spas, and Marc Couget, expert in nutrition, herbal medicine and Chinese medicine.

The idea is to personalize care according to individual needs by combining them with the therapeutic benefits of thalassotherapy. Thanks to sea water, Loreamar treatments allow you to fill up with minerals and trace elements that are good for your health.

Although all cures are fully customizable, wellness programs are already preconceived. Each proposed cure focuses on a different objective, in three or five days. Beauty, detox, anti-stress and vitality are the four themes of the three-day cures. They all offer physical or aquatic activity as well as three to four thalassotherapy treatments per day. At the end of each treatment, you will be offered a draining, slimming or antioxidant drink. To complete your experience, you will also receive advice in terms of marine food supplements, and a balanced menu adapted to your needs.

The proposed five-day cures take place under the same principle with, this time, between four and five daily spa treatments and a consultation at the beginning and end of the stay with a well-being expert. As a theme, you have the choice between a cure focusing on figure and beauty, on stress relief and sleep, as well as on back health. A cure also focuses on the remineralizing effects of seawater and the brand new, launched in 2021, aims to regain vitality. Some five-day cures also include a session aquatic osteopathy.

One of the major assets of the Loreamar thalassotherapy center is to be supervised by highly experienced professionals in several disciplines such as osteopathy, hydrotherapy and naturopathy.

Basque cuisine in a healthy version

To be in perfect harmony with the theme of well-being, the restaurant wishes to offer healthy menus. In other words, vegetables are favored to the detriment of the famous fats. Similarly, the restaurant is supplied with fresh produce without pesticides from local producers. The goal is to find the most natural and balanced diet possible. On the menu, you will also find several gluten-free and lactose-free dishes.

Just overhanging the bay, the restaurant and its panoramic terrace have the privilege of offering one of the most beautiful views of the coast.

The Bar Le Clipper also has access to the hotel’s large terrace. It is an essential address to admire the sunset while sipping a delicious detox cocktail.
